Mobile Specimen Collector (Phlebotomy / DNA Testing)

Certified Phlebotomist, LVN/LPN, RN, EMT, Paramedic, or Lab Technician with venipuncture experience encouraged to apply.

Location: Houston, TX (and surrounding areas)
Position Type: Subcontractor (Full-time and Part-time, Commission-Based)

Job Summary

Onset DNA is seeking experienced, highly motivated and professional Phlebotomists to join our team as commission-based subcontractors. As part of our mobile DNA testing network, you will be responsible for collecting DNA samples (via buccal swabs and blood draws) for a variety of tests, including Paternity, Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity, Non-Invasive Gender Reveal, Immigration, and other genetic testing services.
Collections will take place in diverse client settings, such as homes, workplaces, legal offices, and medical facilities. This is a client-facing role that requires precision, professionalism, and compassion.
The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong communication skills, a healthcare background, and the ability to manage their own appointments while upholding strict compliance and chain-of-custody procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Specimen Collection

  • Perform blood draws and buccal swabs in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintain integrity, accuracy, and legal admissibility of all samples.
  • Verify client identification before specimen collection.
  • Complete and maintain accurate chain of custody documentation.

Client Care & Confidentiality

  • Provide clear explanations of collection procedures.
  • Offer compassionate, professional service while handling sensitive client situations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client information in compliance with HIPAA.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all universal precautions and use appropriate PPE.
  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and CDC infection control guidelines.
  • Dispose of all biohazardous materials safely and legally.

Reporting & Equipment

  • Provide timely updates to Onset DNA’s Operations team.
  • Ensure collection kits, supplies, and equipment are maintained, sanitized, and ready for use.

Qualifications

  • Education: 2+ year of experience performing venipuncture, specimen collection, or mobile phlebotomy.

Prior DNA collection or chain-of-custody experience is a plus, but not required

  • Experience: Prior experience in phlebotomy and specimen collection required; DNA collection experience preferred (training provided).

Skills:

  • Strong phlebotomy technique and client care skills.
  • Knowledge of biohazard disposal and universal precautions.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-driven with marketing/sales aptitude.
  • Basic computer and mobile app proficiency (scheduling, reporting, documentation).

Required Certifications (Completion Required Prior to Onboarding)

The following certifications must be completed and verified before onboarding and client assignment.
Applicants may apply while in the process of obtaining these trainings. Onset DNA will provide approved online training links upon conditional offer.

  • Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Training
  • Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) Training
  • HIPAA Privacy & Security Training
  • OSHA PPE Training
  • Infection Control & Universal Precautions Training
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (optional but strongly preferred)

Transportation & Working Conditions

  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and auto insurance.
  • Travel required across the Houston metro area and nearby communities within a 10-15 mile assigned radius/territory
  • Flexible schedule (weekdays, evenings, weekends as needed).
  • PPE will be provided and is required during all collections.

Compensation

  • Commission-Based: Earn up to $70 per completed test.
  • Bonus Opportunities: Additional incentives based on performance.
