The Avuncular DNA Test helps determine whether a child is biologically related to an alleged aunt or uncle when a parent, often the alleged father, is unavailable or unwilling to participate. By comparing the child’s DNA with the DNA of the alleged aunt or uncle, our AABB-accredited laboratory can calculate the likelihood of a biological relationship with a high degree of accuracy, making this test especially useful in situations involving family questions, suspected paternity, inheritance, or estate matters. Including one parent in the test, when available, can further increase the strength of the results, but it is not required for a meaningful and informative outcome.

A trained Onset DNA Collector comes to your home, office, clinic, or another private location, verifies ID, and collects simple buccal (cheek) swabs from the child and the alleged aunt or uncle (and an optional parent if participating). Samples are sealed in tamper-evident packaging, documented under strict chain-of-custody procedures when legal testing is requested, and shipped to our AABB-accredited partner laboratory. Results are typically available in 5–7 business days, delivered in a clear, easy-to-read report that can be used for personal knowledge or, with proper documentation and chain of custody, for legal purposes.
A buccal swab is a quick, painless method that uses a soft swab rubbed inside the cheek to collect DNA cells. It does not involve needles, is safe for both children and adults, and is just as accurate as a blood test. For best results, we ask clients to rinse with water about 30 minutes before the appointment and avoid eating, drinking, smoking, gum, mints, or mouthwash in the 30 minutes leading up to collection to keep the sample clean. For minors or individuals who cannot legally consent, a legal parent, legal guardian, or court-appointed representative must authorize the test; relatives such as grandparents or partners may only consent if they have legal authority. For legal cases in Texas, proper identification and any court, guardianship, or CPS documents must be presented at or before the appointment. Onset DNA follows all relevant Texas and federal privacy and medical records regulations to protect client rights and support legal admissibility.
